Backpacker Rex

Backstory: During a visit to his extended family in Unova, Rex Hunter found himself taking his first foray into the world of Pokémon with guidance from his aunt. An intelligent, but indecisive youth, Rex had written off becoming a trainer as a possibility in his life due to his mother, a former Gym Trainer and a powerful battler in her own right, opting to retire to focus on her career. But over the course of his journey, a chance meeting with Marshal gave the young man the realization of what he wished to do. For himself, he would become a researcher, gaining knowledge about the world with his experiences and growing the more he traveled. And for his mother, he would use his team to topple the various Fighting-type experts who had made a name for themselves, demonstrating the real power of Saffron's Fighting Dojo.

Writer's Notes: Amusingly enough, despite my choosing Rex's Pokémon at random from my favorites, the recurring theme among most of them was that they were physical attackers. This helped give me a bit of an idea for what I wanted to do with Rex when I began contemplating where to take his story. My inspiration here was formed from my own father wanting me to pursue the same career path that he did, a tempting offer for someone who has uncertainty about what they wish to do with their future. I also chose his Trainer Class symbolically, the Backpacker seeming like an excellent choice to represent someone journeying out into the world to find themselves.
